David Pinzon Velasquez

David majored in computer science from Universidad Javeriana and has a Master in Information Technology Management from Universidad Icesi (Cali, Colombia).

Whilst a pre-graduate student, he enrolled in a program that allowed him to work for five months as an income auditor for a hotel chain located near Teton mountains in Wyoming, US, where in addition to his auditing tasks he went hiking around several times encountering deer, moose and wild foxes... not a single grizzly bear fortunately.

Finishing its pre-graduated program he took a certificate course in network design and management at Universidad Javeriana, complementing his education with curriculum from 3Com and Cisco, later obtaining the Cisco Certified Network Associate certification (CCNA) and acquiring a theoretical and practical knowledge about data network and communication infrastructure.

He joined IBC as an intern in mid 2002, now E-Business unit of Assenda (www.assenda.com), company of the Carvajal group (www.carvajal.com), where he currently holds the role of software architect at the strategic technology office, having contributed before for the Research & Development department.

More involved on a software production role that on an infrastructure one, he took several training courses on Microsoft tools, courses that he complemented participating in Microsoft’s certificate programs, obtaining the Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) certificate, and then, after been evaluated in tracks such as development of Windows applications, development of Web applications, and development of XML Web services, he earned the Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) certificate. His interest for professional and technology actualization remains, he has recently joined programs such as Microsoft’s Desarrollador Cinco Estrellas (Five Star Developer), obtaining the DCE recognition, and Profesional Cinco Estrellas (Five Star Professional) in BizTalkServer.

He participated in the Carvajal’s leadership certificate program at Universidad Icesi, program focused on promoting essential skills and competencies needed for good leadership and effectively perform in the current corporate environment.

Interest in technology, and good abstraction and conceptualization capabilities, have driven him to be a preacher and ‘early adopter’ of technology tendencies, thinking about them as a means for IT to be an engine of new business opportunities. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is one of the fields he is currently involved in, and has taken an active role, promoting the implementation of this technology in supply chain companies. He participated in the RFID training program offered by ISCEA (International Supply Chain Education Alliance), obtaining the RFIDSCM certificate (RFID Supply Chain Manager).

Is also involved in BPM projects (Business Process Management), discipline in which has received training including one held at Silicon Valley at head quarters of a leading provider of BPM technology, whilst in the area he had the opportunity of visiting the facilities of big tech companies such as Google, Intel, Microsoft and Cisco.

His architecture proposals favor the implementation of flexible and adaptable structures, needed for opportunely responding to every day more changing and demanding requirements. He is convinced of the relevance of service orientation as a means of satisfying these requirements.

He enjoys going to the gym on week days to clear his mind, and on weekends drink a couple of beers (or cocktails) for the same purpose. He enjoys reading, even though lately his bedside table keeps technical books and a giant rubik’s cube that he solves while watching the tube. He recommends three of his favorite novels: ‘Count of Monte Cristo’, ‘Crime and Punishment’ and ‘Perfume’, he thinks this last one is also one of the best movie adaptations of a book he has seen (couldn’t say the same for Count of Monte Cristo).
